Sweetser's papers consist of 30 sermons and addresses prepared from 1834 to 1868 and 8 small notebooks containing daily records of the weather conditions with two temperature readings, from 1863 until his death. Sermon topics include: "The Holiness of God's House," "Living to be Good," Congregationalism," "The Trial of Jesus," "The Religious Character and Influence of Colleges," and "Atonement Gives Peace of Conscience." There are also two temperance addresses. The folder contains eleven family photographs, two Sweetser family letters, 1878, and a small volume of notes pertaining to Modern European history kept by Seth Sweetser, 1826.

Seth Sweetser (1807-1878) was born in Newburyport, Mass. He graduated from Harvard College in 1827 and became a minister after three years of study at the Andover Theological Seminary. In 1838 he was installed as minister of the Central Church in Worcester, Mass. Among his accomplishments, Sweetser was President of the Theological Seminary and Phillips Academy at Andover, trustee of Leicester Academy, President of the American Education Society, member of the Board of Commissioners for Foreign M...
